W hile Giada De Laurentiis typically sticks to making everyday Italian cuisine in a pristine Food Network kitchen, every once in a while she’ll pull out a recipe that diverges from her usual. This time, it’s a homemade chip dip that she dubbed “perfectttt for game days!” on Facebook while wearing a sweater that reads, “Football is my favorite season.” Originally this recipe appeared on an episode of Giada’s Holiday Handbook, but considering it’s taken on a new life as a game day dip in Giada’s home, we can’t help but assume it must be that good.
How to Make Giada De Laurentiis’s Game Day Dip
The recipe for this dip, made with only four ingredients (five if you count the olive oil) starts off with double smoked slab bacon, which Giada fries up in a skillet with a splash of olive oil before crumbling up. With the leftover bacon grease in the pan, she cooks a diced onion until caramelized. This then gets mixed in a bowl with the crumbled bacon, chopped chives, and whole fat Greek yogurt. “it’s savory and rich, but it doesn’t feel as heavy as a mayo or sour cream-based dip,” she explains of her choice to use Greek yogurt.
That’s truly all there is to it, and it honestly doesn’t need much more. The bacon brings a rich smokiness, the onions add a light sweetness, and it’s perfectly balanced by the tang of the Greek yogurt and the fresh chives.
Giada suggests serving this tasty dip with chips or raw veggies. And honestly even if football isn’t your favorite season, you can serve it up at any gathering. It’s perfect with kettle chips or raw veg, and works just as well as part of a holiday spread, or on a couch during kickoff. You’ll definitely want to have this simple yet tasty recipe up your sleeve. Find a step-by-step recipe ahead.
