It’s no longer a secret that the pub that Ariana Grande sings about in the “Eternal Sunshine” track Hampstead is the North London establishment The Holly Bush.
But at one point, even the pub’s employee’s weren’t entirely sure of the connection. It wasn’t until the release of the music video, which opens with a shot of a pub that says “Holly” on the front of the building, that it became clear.
“I’d gotten so many texts from my friends asking if she was singing about the Holly Bush, because by that point she had become somewhat of a regular here when she was filming the movie [Wicked],” a Holly Bush employee tells us. “I was like, ‘I don’t know, but I think it might be!’ Then the music video came out and it pretty much confirmed it. We were all just so thrilled.”
Soon afterwards, the Holly Bush pub’s official Instagram account posted a video montage set to the track. Grande then liked and commented on the post, and followed the account, further confirming the connection to the song.
While this may be old news to some, the Holly Bush still hasn’t lost it’s novelty with superfans: Arianators are still making the pilgrimage to the very site where the singer apparently “left her heart” and “misplaced her mind in a good way.”
What did Ariana Grande order at the Holly Bush?
Taking a selfie in front of the Holly Bush’s vine-covered exterior may be a non-negotiable for Ariana Grande fans who make the trek to Hampstead, but those who also decide to grab a bite to eat inside may wonder what the Grammy-winning singer actually ordered when dining there. We spoke to a Holly Bush employee to get an inside scoop:
“While I can’t disclose exactly what she ordered, I will say that there is currently only one plant-based entrée on the menu,” the employee hints, referencing the fact that Ariana Grande is famously a vegan.
A glance at the menu does in fact confirm that there really is only one vegan entrée available (conveniently labeled pb for plant-based). The entrée in question: Crispy basil polenta with piquillo peppers, black olive, smoked almonds, sauce vierge. There are plenty of other vegan-friendly starters and sides on the menu as well.
As for Grande’s drink order, the insider was only willing to divulge, “I hear she likes Italian wine.”
Curious fans will be happy to learn that the Holly Bush’s drinks menu, while extensive, includes only two Italian wines, narrowing the possibilities to: a sparkling white La Tordera ‘Brunei’ prosecco from Valdobbiadene, Italy and a red Langhe Nebbiolo ‘Argo’ from Langhe, Italy.
Considering Grande’s go-to wine is confirmed to be Barolo, it’s clear the Wicked star prefers red over white, which points to the Langhe Nebbiolo ‘Argo’ over the La Tordera ‘Brunei’.
When did Ariana Grande visit the Holly Bush?
Based on a mix of paparazzi and fan sightings, Grande moved to the Hampstead neighborhood in August 2022 for the Wicked movie, which officially began filming at Elstree Studios in December 2022.
“I was in Hampstead when I was here, and I loved my walks on the Heath,” Grande said in an interview with BBC Radio1. “I loved meandering around and visiting different shops and places and pubs.
One of those pubs of course was the Holly Bush. And as our insider shares, Grande visited to the Holly Bush on a few different occasions, including with her ex-husband Dalton and members of the Wicked cast including Cynthia Erivo and Ethan Slater. She would dine upstairs in a private dining room.
“I didn’t interact with her loads, but she was lovely when she came in,” the insider tells us.
